Marketing or advertising are the two main factors involved in the sales of any product, and this is what exactly happens at auto shows. An auto show is an event, usually spanning from few days to two weeks, where car companies from around the world showcase their new vehicles. Auto Expo 2016 is the second largest such auto show in the world, which is organized in our own country. It is also the largest auto show in the entire Asian sub-continent.
Purpose of the Show
The very first Auto Expo was held in 1986. It helped the domestic automakers see and learn modern engineering and new technologies being used in other countries, and implement them in our country. Thereafter, the show was held every two years and the last one was held in the year 2014. Through this grand event, India showcases its expertise in the automotive industry to manufacturers of both Indian and foreign origins. Moreover, automobile companies launch their new vehicles at the show and they get more public attention, leading to improved sales. It is also a great platform for joint ventures, generating enquiries, one-to-one interactions, etc.
Organizers and Participants
Auto Expo – The Motor Show is always held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This mega event is supported by three main organisations – Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Participants come from over 30 countries, including China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, South Africa, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States of America, etc.
Highlights of the 2014 Auto Expo
- More than 5 lakh visitors thronged the venue.
- There were stalls by 47 foreign manufacturers and 58 domestic companies.
- The show witnessed 9 local and 3 global two-wheeler launches, 12 commercial vehicle launches, and 25 local and 15 international car launches.

The 13th Auto Expo is scheduled to be held from 5th – 9th February 2016 at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, with the venue of The Component Show being Pragati Maidan. For better management of the event, the organisers had to come up with a new place as the space occupied, number of exhibitors, new launches and the number of visitors were just getting multiplied every year.
Upcoming Launches
The most awaited models to be launched this year are Jaguar XE sedan, Maruti YBA compact SUV, Mahindra Halo electric-car, Tata Nexon SUV, Royal Enfield Himalayan, Bajaj Pulsar 700 SS concept based on the Duke 690 and TVS – BMW motorcycles. The online ticket booking for the much awaited Expo has already begun.
