Production
The industry produced a total 10,900,264 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-August 2016 as against 9,800,197 in April-August 2015, registering a growth of 11.22 percent over the same period last year.
Domestic Sales
The sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 10.74 percent in April-August 2016 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans grew by 3.01 percent, 40.74 percent and 6.67 percent respectively during April-August 2016 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 7.97 percent in April-August 2016 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 4.41 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles grew by 10.65 percent during April-August 2016 over the same period last year.
Three Wheelers sales grew by 15.44 percent in April- August 2016 over the same period last year. Passenger and Goods Carrier sales grew by 15.12 percent and 16.98 percent respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.
Two Wheelers sales registered a growth at 16.51 percent during April-August 2016 over April–August 2015. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 26.07 percent, 11.79 percent and 23.14 percent respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.
Exports
In April-August 2016, overall automobile exports declined by (-) 11.16 percent. While Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles exports registered a growth of 13.47 percent and 8.53 percent, exports of Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers declined by (-) 39.31 percent and (-) 12.67 percent respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.
