Thanks to its youngest portfolio of world class products, a differentiated customer experience and low cost of ownership, Ford India closed the year 2016 with an encouraging 34% growth in combined domestic wholesales and exports.
Combined domestic wholesales and exports in 2016 stood at 238,098 vehicles compared to 176,858 units in 2015. Domestic wholesales in the year reached 86,460 vehicles compared to 77,715 while exports rose to 151,638 vehicles from 99,143 units for the same period.
“2016 has been a year of growth for Ford in India. Our Growth 2.0 strategy focused on product led innovation, delivering differentiated customer experience and busting the myth of COO is paying dividends. This is evidenced by the fact that we grew both in Dec and in FY 2016 faster than the industry,” said Anurag Mehrotra, executive director, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford India. “As we move in 2017, the industry does face some short-term headwinds given the uncertainty regarding the impact of demonetization and GST, while the medium to long term outlook continues to be positive.”
Midst drop in consumer spending and economic challenges posed by demonetization, the total vehicle sales for the month of December reached 23,470 from 10,865 vehicles last year. Domestic wholesales in December remained steady at 5,566 from 5,924 units a year ago, while exports grew to 17,904 compared to 4,941 units in December 2015.
Kick-starting the award season, the month of December saw accolades for Ford Endeavour as the premium SUV of the year at CNBC OverDrive Awards, full-size SUV of the year at NDTV Car & Bike Awards and Techy SUV of the year at Exhibit Tech Awards 2016.
A strong endorsement of Ford’s continued efforts in reducing the Cost of Ownership, the independent Spare Parts Price Survey by India leading auto magazine, Autocar India, ranked Ford to be among the most affordable against the competition, thus making it for a perfect end to an eventful year.
